Copper Repiping
When it comes to copper repiping, a lot of people scratch their heads when confronted with the question of who has to do this job. Some would suggest seeking professional help while others would have a go at it themselves. Of course each side has its own pros and cons and this will be discussed briefly below.
Do-It-Yourself (DIY)
In a DIY set-up, everything is done by yourself. More often than not, this includes selecting and buying the needed materials and installing them on your own. Of course this requires substantial amounts of effort on your part and time as well. Ideally, you want to have at least a basic knowledge and understanding on the matter. Some experience will not hurt here as well.
The most obvious advantage here is that you can money in terms of not paying someone else to do it for you. You also save on the piping and other materials you need. This is actually the most commonly cited reason for going DIY and it makes perfect sense. To a lesser extent, you have control over this project as well.
If you are really an expert on the matter, then do not hesitate on repiping your system on your own. The financial costs are minimal and this is a welcome advantage indeed. You will not have to put money on the line for a job you are not even sure would come out right, that is, if you do know what you are doing.
Professional Assistance
On the other hand, if you have absolutely no idea on what to do you may want to call on a professional instead. As with most people, you might just scratch your head when confronted with a piping problem. When this happens, do yourself a favor by handing the job over to a skilled professional who knows what to do.
Whether an individual or a team, these guys already know what to do and could get started right away. This means that they will get the job done and right in no time. In this set-up you do not even have to lift a finger except when calling and searching for a contractor in your local area.
The main turn off from professional help however is the cost. It is no secret that you have to pay these guys a hefty sum of money for their services. Some may be okay with this amount but most people would find it too much for their budget.
To get around this problem, you may call as many contractors as you can and ask for quotes. The cheapest quote of course should be the winning bid which allows you to save money. When doing this, beware of contractors that offer substandard quality.
These are just some of the most common arguments when it comes to getting a copper repiping job done. Be sure to weigh in the pros and cons carefully before making the final decision. Whatever you do though, do not skip on quality.
